Cuckfield
The ‘independent state’ of Cuckfield, located to the west of Haywards Heath, can trace its history back to Saxon England and was a regular stop for stagecoaches traveling from London to Brighton in the 1800’s, including regular visits by King George IV.
The Cuckfield Conservation Area is the perfect place to find a property with plenty of character or if you are looking for a more modern property Whiteman’s Green is the place to start your search.
The 16th century High Street is lined with various independent shops, several pubs and leads to the Holy Trinity Church. The village has a real community spirit and throughout the year the village holds multiple events including an annual charity mayor election, local food markets and a Bonfire fireworks night.
The village is also the location of Gideon Mantell’s discovery of fossilised iguanodon bones found in Whiteman’s Green that started the Victorian craze for Palaeontology.
Cuckfield is surrounded by beautiful countryside, including Blunts Wood and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, whilst it also provides easy access to the A23/M23 and Haywards Heath mainline train station.
